Student Government Associations Committees

The TAMU-CC Student Government Association seeks students to participate on a variety of internal and university wide committees.  To volunteer for a committee please visit the SGA Office located in the University Center Student Involvement Center Room 218L. Spirit & Traditions Committee

The Spirit & Traditions Committee serves to promote Islander Spirit and uphold campus Traditions. This committee will take an active role in spreading school spirit, educating students in campus traditions, planning and organizing events, and participating in spirited events and traditions on campus. Spirit & Traditions is responsible for overseeing all proper training of chants, the fight song, and the alma mater. This Committee is also in charge of planning and organizing all Spirit related events as well as tasks asked or assigned to them under the category of Spirit & Traditions.

Constitution & Elections Committee

The Constitution and Elections Committee is charged with continuously reviewing and updating the constitution and bylaws of SGA. The committee is also charged with facilitating elections during the spring semester. The committee aims to make SGA operate more smoothly and efficiently by writing and organizing rules that fit the organization's current state.

Examples of Tasks

Reviewing each section of the constitution and bylaws for flaws and loopholes

Anticipating possible conflicts within SGA, and writing bylaws that deal with these specific scenarios

Advising the whole of SGA regarding proper rules and procedures

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations committee serves to promote good relations between the TAMUCC SGA and the students it serves. This committee plays a vital role in promoting SGA events, forums, legislation, etc. The Public Relations committee is responsible for overseeing any and all social media and promotional activities. The committee will work closely with the Student Affairs committee with ongoing projects, but will also keep up with other internal and external committees and each college, as well, to keep the campus community updated.

Student Affairs Committee

The Student Affairs Committee works on concerns and issues that students have on campus. The committee's job is to find the areas that students need help or assistance so that students can feel as though his/ her concerns are being heard. Also, this committee meets with different departments on campus so that there is student input on a particular concern.

Academic Affairs Committee

The Academic Affairs Committee operates at the liaison between the student body and the campus higher administration and faculty specifically regarding academic policies and issues. This committee serves to address as well as communicate the grievances of the student body's academic experience. This committee is responsible for communicating academia issues to the Student Government Association, investigating specific academic policies, and being informed about how the Provost's office as well as how the Registrar operates. This committee is also responsible for developing ways to improve the academic experience for our students.

 Environmental Affairs Committee

The Environmental Affairs Committee generates the encouragement of eco-friendly processes and regulations. This committee seeks to interact with the university, as well as, faculty and students to influence a greener way of thinking. Environmental affairs is in charge of concerns students/faculty have with the way the university handles their recycling activities and environmental issues.

Food Services Committee

The Food and Services Committee is to work with various constituent groups, in a proactive way, to ensure there is support for future food and service offering and operational plans, new program initiatives, utilization of Sanddollar$ and Meal Plan, and other issues which may affect satisfaction, quality and service orientation.

Parking & Transportation Committee

Serves as the liaison between students and the Parking and Transportation services campus committee. The SGA committee discusses issues such as signage in parking lots and answering student questions and complaints. Students should use this committee to bring forth concerns, comments and suggestions.



Special Events & Catering Incentive Fund Committee

Recognized student organizations can apply for assistance with expenses from the Special Event Fund. This includes travel, registration for conferences specific to the organization, hosting on campus events, and other necessities that contribute to the success and development of the organization. The purpose of this fund is to enable student organizations to provide leadership or educational opportunities for their members and the TAMUCC community and not let finances be a hindrance to providing those opportunities. While reviewing the applications with my committee and Advisor, we take careful consideration into the organization’s requested amount, how much they are contributing themselves, and making sure the event benefits the entire TAMUCC community.

Chartwells is the food services provider for Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. As a part of their contract with the University, Chartwells has committed to assisting recognized student organizations with catering expenses. Student organizations can apply for assistance with catering expenses for meetings, events and activities happening on the TAMU-CC campus. The purpose of this funding is to encourage student organizations to use campus facilities for their functions.

 

Legislative Study Committee

The Legislative Study Committee shall be a standing committee of the Student Government Association of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. The committee shall meet when the Texas Legislature is in session. This committee will be tasked with finding and researching all upcoming bills that could affect Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. The committee will review the proposed bills and work together to develop suggestions or a plan of action for the Student Government Association.
